Location: Heysham
Shift Pattern: 4 on / 4 off (days & nights)

Temp to Perm position

About the Role

We are seeking a proactive and reliable Autogate Controller to join our operations team. Acting as the first point of contact for hauliers, you will play a key role in managing the safe and efficient flow of HGV traffic in and out of the terminal using a state-of-the-art automated gate system.

This is a fast-paced, safety-critical position suited to individuals who can remain calm under pressure and communicate effectively in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Haulier Support: Act as the primary point of contact for drivers, resolving queries and issues via intercom systems
  • Traffic Management: Monitor and coordinate high volumes of HGV movements to ensure smooth terminal operations
  • System Operations: Operate and oversee the Automated Gate System (including ANPR), identifying and troubleshooting faults
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure all vehicle movements are conducted safely in line with site procedures
  • Communication & Reporting: Liaise with internal teams and report system issues or operational concerns promptly

About You

  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced operational environment
  • Confident using IT systems and monitoring platforms
  • High attention to detail with the ability to multitask
  • A team player who can also work independently
  • Able to remain calm and professional under pressure

Requirements

  • Previous experience in transport, logistics, or a similar environment is desirable
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights and weekends
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment medical assessment
