We are currently seeking a dedicated and skilled Engineer to join our engineering team in Kendal. Reporting directly to the Senior Engineer or Engineering Manager, this role is vital to the smooth running of maintenance, breakdown response, and continuous improvement activities across the site.
Job Purpose
The Engineer will support daily operations, including PPM, emergency breakdowns, equipment upgrades, and infrastructure projects. The role includes shift work (plant-specific pattern) and on-call duties to cover breakdowns and shutdown periods.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete all PPM tasks on time and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
- Ensure effective daily handover with the opposite shift Engineer.
- Support plant improvement initiatives and help identify and solve long-term issues.
- Undertake safe, timely repairs and remedial works.
- Monitor and report risks related to safety and equipment.
- Ensure contractors adhere to Health & Safety standards on site.
- Promote a strong safety culture, adhering to the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
- Maintain site housekeeping and ensure company standards are met.
- Work closely with production teams to ensure clear communication and minimal downtime.
Education & Experience
- Must possess a recognised qualification relevant to the role (e.g. Mechanical or Electrical City & Guilds).
- Skilled in both electrical and mechanical trades; an apprenticeship with indentures is preferred.
- Preferred working knowledge of other disciplines such as pneumatics, hydraulics, and steam systems.
Knowledge & Skills Required
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Qualified in Electrical Installation (17th Edition).
- Skilled in Electrical & Mechanical Maintenance, Fabrication, and Electronic Fault Finding to component level.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
- Flexible, reliable, and self-motivated, with a high attention to detail.
- Willingness to work unsocial hours, including night shifts as needed.
- Clean criminal record.
