Excavator Operator


Location: Barrow (with occasional travel to Kendal)
Pay Rate: £13.60 per hour
Hours: Monday-Friday, 08:00-16:30
Overtime: Available before and after shifts + regular Saturdays (optional) Overtime Rate: 1.4× standard hourly rate

Role Overview


We are looking for a reliable and safety‑focused Plant Operator to join our waste‑site operations in Barrow. The role involves operating excavators and other plant machinery to support daily waste‑handling, loading, sorting, and general site maintenance. This is a full‑time position with stable weekday hours and regular overtime opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate excavators safely and efficiently within a busy waste‑site environment
  • Load, move, and sort waste materials
  • Carry out daily machine checks and report defects promptly
  • Follow all site safety procedures and environmental compliance standards
  • Work collaboratively with the site team to maintain smooth operations
  • Drive a company vehicle to Kendal when required
  • Support general site duties when not operating machinery

Requirements

  • Valid accredited excavator licence/ ticket (essential)
  • Experience operating a 16-tonne excavator preferred
    • Operators with 9‑tonne experience will be considered and provided training
  • Full UK driving licence with no more than 6 points
  • Ability to work safely in a fast‑paced waste‑site environment
  • Good communication skills and a positive, team‑focused attitude
  • Willingness to work overtime and occasional Saturdays
