The Job Role
We are seeking a reliable and safety conscious Furnace operator to join a well establish company that is the uk largest recycler of zinc waste.
- Operate and monitor melting and refining furnaces to process zinc-bearing materials safely and efficiently.
- Charge furnaces with raw materials, monitor melting process, and adjust controls to maintain optimal temperatures and processing conditions.
- Record production data, including temperatures, material weights, and processing times.
- Perform routine inspections, basic maintenance, and troubleshooting of furnace equipment.
- Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations at all times.
- Collaborate with quality control and maintenance teams to ensure product specifications and operational standards are met.
- Handle and prepare recycled metal for further processing or shipment.
- Maintain clean and organise work areas and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
- Lifting 25kg bulk bags
What do you need to be a successful Furnace Operator
- Physically fit: able to lift up to 25-30 kg (approx. 60 lbs) and work on feet for long periods
- Comfortable working in high-heat environments and around heavy machinery
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Tolerance to dust, noise, and industrial fumes
- Ability to wear a tight-fitting facepiece respirator (Face Fit Test compliant) for extended periods, as required by health and safety regulations
- Must be clean-shaven in areas where the respirator seals to ensure proper fit and protection
- Fork lift licence desirable but not essential
- Previous experience in a similar role i.e foundry worker
