We have opportunities in the South Shields area for Class 1 or Class 2 drivers working in a port environment. We are currently seeking a skilled Sweeper Driver with a strong understanding of vehicle operation, maintenance awareness, and a proactive attitude to health and safety. As a Sweeper Driver, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of industrial sweepers across the port. This role requires careful driving, equipment handling, and a keen eye for maintaining cleanliness and operational standards.

Hours of work

This role requires workers to do a mixture of days and night shifts plus some weekend working. 12 hour shifts usually 0600 to 17:00 or 1800 to 0600.

Pay:

This role pays £14.54 per hour for day and night shifts.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate large sweepers safely within a busy port environment.
• Complete scheduled cleaning runs and basic vehicle checks.
• Maintain equipment cleanliness (hosing down, clearing debris).
• Report faults or safety concerns promptly.
• Adhere to site safety rules, traffic protocols, and PPE standards.

Ideal Candidate:

• Holds a valid Class 2 licence (Class 1 desirable).
• Skilled in operating industrial vehicles and equipment.
• Mechanically aware and safety-conscious.
• Reliable, responsible, and able to work independently.
• Clear communicator with a proactive, flexible approach.
