Port Operative

Slinger Experience or FLT Licence Required
Location: South Shields
Pay Rate: £14.54 per hour (day & night shifts)
Shift Pattern: 12-hour shifts (0600-1800 / 1800-0600), including days, nights, and weekends on a rotating roster

We are currently recruiting Port Operatives to join a busy and dynamic team in the South Shields port environment. This is a hands-on role involving the safe and efficient handling of cargo across various port operations.

To be considered, you must have either:

  • Valid Counterbalance Forklift Truck (FLT) Licence
    or
  • Previous experience as a Slinger or Slinger/Banksman

All successful candidates must pass a drug and alcohol test prior to starting.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Operating as a Slinger/Banksman to guide crane operations and safely manage cargo movements
  • Using a Forklift Truck (FLT) to load/unload cargo in a safe and timely manner
  • Performing general labouring duties on the quayside and within the port environment
  • Supporting port operations during vessel loading and discharge
  • Maintaining a high standard of health & safety at all times
  • Following safe systems of work and using PPE as required
  • Adapting to changing job tasks across various areas of the port



Essential Requirements:

  • Slinger or Slinger/Banksman experience
  • Valid Counterbalance FLT Licence (if not a slinger)
  • Willingness to work day, night, and weekend shifts
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and work in a physically demanding role
  • Must pass a drug and alcohol test



Desirable:

  • Previous experience working in a port, logistics, or warehouse environment
  • Knowledge of cargo operations, vessel handling, or dockside procedures

Training:
Full ports-specific training will be provided to successful candidates.
