We are currently looking for a number of Port Operatives to join a long term contract in Middlesbrough.
Port Operative
Contract Length: Approx. 6-7 months
Start Dates: 2nd March plus dates for additional intakes
Pay Rate: £16.13 per hour (11.25 paid hours per shift)
Shift Patterns
* Days: 6:00am - 6:00pm
* Nights: 6:00pm - 6:00am
* Candidates must be available for ad hoc shifts, including weekdays and weekends
* Shift allocation will be confirmed as the contract progresses
We are recruiting Port Operatives (Slingers) to join a major project starting early March. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with industrial or port experience who are looking for long‑term, consistent work in a fast‑paced operational environment.
What You'll Be Doing
* Supporting slinging operations during cargo loading and unloading
* Assisting with the safe movement, securing, and positioning of cargo
* Working closely with crane operators, supervisors, and port teams
* Following strict safety procedures and maintaining a clean, safe work area
* Completing familiarisation shifts and ongoing training as required
What We're Looking For
Essential
* Experience in industrial, port, construction, or heavy‑duty environments
* Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all weather
* Strong safety awareness and willingness to follow procedures
* Reliable, punctual, and flexible with shift patterns
* Able to pass mandatory drug and alcohol testing
Available for medical assessments WC 23rd February - Safety Critical medical
Desirable
* Slinging tickets or lifting‑related certifications
* Previous slinger, stevedore, or port operative experience
Training & Onboarding
All successful candidates will complete:
* 5 days L&D Slingering Training
* 10 familiarisation shifts initially
Tickets are not essential - the right attitude and relevant experience are what matter most.
