Project Manager - Steel Installation

Location: Various sites across the UK (Office-based when not on site)

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

About the Role:

Nicholas Associates are pleased to be working with a well-established company within the steelwork sector, known for its involvement in large-scale projects within the Railway, Highways, and Construction industries. Our client is looking for an experienced Project Manager to manage and oversee multiple steel installation projects, working alongside Tier 1 contractors.

As a Project Manager, you will be responsible for coordinating the design, production, and installation phases of various steel installation projects. Your ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, understand structural steelwork requirements, and effectively manage site surveys will be key to your success in this role.

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with solid experience in the steelwork sector, who is ready to take on diverse and challenging projects across different industries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the design, production, and installation of projects, ensuring project requirements are met
  • Conduct site surveys and provide detailed information for fabrication and installation
  • Interpret engineering drawings, structural steelwork drawings, and connection details
  • Prepare and manage Risk Assessments and Method Statements
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards and safety regulations
  • Work closely with internal teams, subcontractors, and external stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery
  • Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets effectively
  • Occasionally work weekends, nights, and away from home, depending on the project needs

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in project management within the steel installation or related sector
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering and structural steelwork drawings
  • Strong knowledge of construction processes, including risk assessments and method statements
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Relevant qualifications such as NEBOSH, SMSTS, SSSTS, or CSCS
  • PTS (Preferably, but can be obtained after appointment)
  • Drugs/Alcohol medical required
  • Strong organisational, leadership, and communication skills

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience in plater/fabricator roles or steel erection
  • Background in supervision, project delivery, estimating, planning, or design
  • Experience with railway stations, rail bridges, footbridges, road bridges, and related infrastructure projects
  • Familiarity with temporary works and sub-contract works packages (e.g., glazing, cladding, civils work)
