Job Title: Sawmill Operative
Location: Lockerbie
Job Type: Full‑time
Salary: £12.71 per hour
Hours: 39 hours per week Monday to Friday
We are looking for a hardworking and safety‑conscious Sawmill Operative to join our production team. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating sawmill machinery, processing timber to specification, and maintaining a clean, efficient working environment. This role suits someone who enjoys practical, physical work and takes pride in producing high‑quality timber products.
Operate sawmill machinery including saws, planers, edgers, and forklifts (if licensed)
Sort, stack, and grade timber according to company standards
Measure and cut timber to required specifications
Monitor machinery performance and report faults or maintenance needs
Follow all health and safety procedures, including PPE requirements
Assist with loading and unloading timber products
Maintain a clean and organised work area
Work as part of a team to meet daily production targets
Perform general yard duties as required
Previous experience in a sawmill, timber yard, or manufacturing environment (preferred but not essential)
Ability to operate or learn to operate sawmill machinery
Good understanding of health and safety practices
Physically fit and comfortable with manual handling
Strong attention to detail and quality
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
