Job Title: Sawmill Operative

Location: Lockerbie

Job Type: Full‑time

Salary: £12.71 per hour

Hours: 39 hours per week Monday to Friday

Overview

We are looking for a hardworking and safety‑conscious Sawmill Operative to join our production team. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating sawmill machinery, processing timber to specification, and maintaining a clean, efficient working environment. This role suits someone who enjoys practical, physical work and takes pride in producing high‑quality timber products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate sawmill machinery including saws, planers, edgers, and forklifts (if licensed)

  • Sort, stack, and grade timber according to company standards

  • Measure and cut timber to required specifications

  • Monitor machinery performance and report faults or maintenance needs

  • Follow all health and safety procedures, including PPE requirements

  • Assist with loading and unloading timber products

  • Maintain a clean and organised work area

  • Work as part of a team to meet daily production targets

  • Perform general yard duties as required

Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience in a sawmill, timber yard, or manufacturing environment (preferred but not essential)

  • Ability to operate or learn to operate sawmill machinery

  • Good understanding of health and safety practices

  • Physically fit and comfortable with manual handling

  • Strong attention to detail and quality

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
